15-Year-Old Boy in Tennessee Arrested and Charged with the Murder of a 13-Year-Old Girl.

A community is in shock after an evening of utter disbelief. Authorities in Knoxville, TN received a call about a possible dead body on a walking trail. When dispatched officers arrived on the scene around 4:45pm, they found the body of a young girl.

Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler announced around 11 p.m. that a 15-year-old boy was arrested and is being charged with second-degree murder. Spangler noted that investigators believe that the two knew each other and there is no active threat to the community.

Police say that the victim, a 13-year-old girl, and the boy charged will not be identified due to their age.

“I’m not going to give any names out. I’m asking that you all give this family some time,” Spangler said. “Just out of courtesy, I’m not going to give a name. I think they deserve that.”

Local people say that the trail the body was found on, near the Broadacres subdivision, is often used by children as a shortcut to get to a nearby convenience store not far from the Powell High School.

Knox County Schools shared that they will have grief counselors available at the Powell Middle School where it is presumed that the victim was a student.

There have been no details released on the girl's cause of death or how long her body had been on the trail.
