18-Month-Old Baby Shoots and Kills 5-Year-Old in Horrible Accident!

A horrible accident in a Detroit family home has taken the life of a 5-year-old.

On what would be a monumental day in history, the city of Detroit is reeling after an early morning accident claimed the life of a child. Police were called out to a home in the 2400 block of Sturtevant Street this morning around 9:30am for an "incident involving a child". When they arrived they found a 5-year-old victim with a gunshot wound.

Police believe that the 18-month-old child managed to find the unsecured weapon and discharge it. The bullet from the weapon struck then struck the 5-year-old. Medical attention was provided to the child at the scene but, unfortunately, the child did not survive.

A man in the home, identified as the children's father, was detained for questioning but it is unclear, at this time, whether he will face any charges. The father, nor the children, have been identified publicly by the police to the public.

“It’s a sad day in the city today. We lost another child in the city due to a lack of firearm safety. This was completely avoidable,” Detroit police Commander Tiffany Stewart said.
