After Welcoming Her First Child, Serena Williams Pens a Heartwarming Letter to Her Mother.
Almost every woman looks at her first born child and instantly has a new level of appreciation for their own mother and Serena Williams is not different. The new mom recently posted an open "Letter to" her "mom" on her fiancé's site, Reddit, that has its readers overflowing with emotions.
In the letter Serena gushes about how much her new daughter's arms and legs look like her own and how she wishes to shield her from the ridicule of the world for having a strong frame. You could just feel her energy when she penned "I've been called man because I appeared outwardly strong". It's sad that women get body-shamed for being "too strong", "too thin", "too fat" and everything else in between. Seriously people, stop it.
Williams went on to thank her mother saying: "Thank you for being the role model I needed to endure all the hardships that I now regard as a challenges--ones that I enjoy. I hope to teach my baby Alexis Olympia the same, and have the same fortitude you have had." She put some serious thought into this letter. Take a moment and read it in its entirety below.
What a wonderful sentiment!
