ICYMI: Oprah Winfrey Receives the Cecil B. de Mille Award at the Golden Globes! [WATCH]
Last night Oprah Winfrey was honored by her peers at the Golden Globe Awards. A true historical feat as, much like Sidney Poitier before her, she has become the first African American woman to be presented with this prestigious award. During her speech she said "I want all of the girls watching here now to know, that a new day is on the horizon. And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say, 'me too' again."
The speech inspired all of those in attendance as well as watching from the comfort of their homes. The Golden Globe Awards this year took on a different meaning as Hollywood has been under fire lately for the misconduct of several male executives, actors and film producers. This year the show was dedicated to the #TimesUp movement with women, and men alike, vowing that the time for keeping quiet about the heinous acts in Hollywood was over. Nearly all of the attendees wore black as a sign of solidarity for those who have endures these crimes in silence.
Watch her inspiring speech below.
A new day has come indeed!
