Chicago Man Seriously Injured in Police Shooting.

Last night during a traffic stop, one man was seriously injured after being shot by a Chicago police officer. During the stop it was reported that the victim "pushed" the officer before trying to run away from the scene.

The Chicago Tribune reports:

"Just before 8 p.m., officers with the Area South Gang Team conducting a narcotics investigation pulled over a vehicle in the 4200 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said.

When the officers directed the occupants to get out of the vehicle, one man pushed an officer and started running toward an area with a number of parked tractor trailers.

The officers followed, and one officer discharged a weapon, striking the man, police said.No officers were reported injured.Anthony Guglielmi, chief spokesman for the department, said a search for an offender’s weapon continued into the night.

“The offending vehicle had not yet been searched - it was being towed back to the Area for forensics processing and they requested K9 and additional light trucks in order to search the tractor trailer parking area,” Guglielmi said in an email.

As of 12:30 a.m. Monday, evidence technicians were still processing the scene along a busy strip of Ashland Avenue that includes fast food restaurants, a bank and cell phone stores. Many large parking lots with trailers are located in an industrial corridor near the scene."

This story is still developing and an internal investigation is already underway. At this time, there has been no comment from the police department spokesperson.
