Suspect Arrested in the Stabbing Death of 18-Year-Old Nia Wilson.

The family of Nia Wilson can begin petition for #JusticeForNia. The 27-year-old man accused of murdering their daughter has been captured.

"Bay Area Rapid Transit Police Chief Carlos Rojas released a mugshot and surveillance photos of John Lee Cowell, who struck 18-year-old Nia Wilson to death in a horror knife attack that has been described as a 'random and unprovoked' incident.

The victim's 20-year-old sister, Lahtifa Wilson, was also hospitalized in stable condition after being injured in the attack that took place at MacArthur Station of the Oakland Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART).

BART police finally arrested the suspect around 6:45pm Monday after they received an anonymous tip from another subway rider, Rojas said in a press conference.

Cowell was taken into custody at the Pleasant Hill, Contra Costa Centre station and was then transported to the department for questioning.

Surveillance footage shows Cowell at the time he 'rapidly struck' the two young women as they departed the train. Not long after, the suspect was spotted as he fled the scene and changed clothes.

Police found a bloody knife at the scene shortly after that was believed to be used in the attack.

Both victims are black and the suspect is white. Authorities have not determined a motive for the attack and have no evidence thus far that suggest it was racially motivated."

While officers were en route to the scene, witnesses were also recording and documenting the crime.

"A man, who told the San Francisco Gate he was present when the attack occurred, said he was turned away from the sisters when he heard noise behind him.

Then he saw one of the women bleeding from her back, and witnessed the suspect 'poking' the other sister.

There was no audible confrontation between the sisters and the suspect, prior to the attack he said."

Nia's older sister Lahtifa has said that her baby sister, the youngest of six children, died in her arms calling her name.

Cowell is a known criminal who was just released from prison in May and is currently on parole.

At this time there are no words on when her memorial service will be held but the family has opened a GoFundMe page to help with expenses that the burial and legal battle will incur. Although their goal has been met, we still encourage everyone to give if they can.
