Body of Missing Detroit Toddler Found in an Alley Days After Her Abduction and Her Mother Assaulted!

Days after she was reported missing, a Detroit toddler's body has reportedly been found.

The ordeal began for the Lansing, Michigan family of 2-year-old Wynter Cole Smith just days ago when her mother was brutally assaulted and stabbed by an ex-boyfriend. Detroit police say that Rashad Maleek Trice, 26, was accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home, sexually assaulting her and stabbing her repeatedly on Sunday July 2nd. Police say that after Trice assaulted the ex-girlfriend, he fled in her car, taking her toddler with him.

Trice was arrested around 5 a.m. Monday, July 3, in St. Clair Shores after an Amber Alert was issued. Police spotted the Chevrolet Impala he stole from his ex-girlfriend and eventually took him into custody after a short chase. He was hospitalized briefly for injuries sustained during the crash. Trice did not have Wynter with him at the time of the crash and an Amber Alert was sent out in hopes of finding her. After three days, police still had no clue where little Wynter was.

Until last night.

Detroit News 4 reported that FBI agents and officers from police departments between Lansing and Detroit spent days investigating her disappearance. They determined a tentative route Trice took from Lansing to St. Clair Shores, and prioritized searches in those areas.

On Wednesday night, Detroit police officers said they found Wynter’s body in an overgrown alley near Olympia Street and Erwin Avenue on the city’s east side.

The discovery was made while officers conducted a grid search from I-94 to Van Dyke Avenue.

Trice has been charged with assault with intent to murder, first-degree home invasion, unlawful imprisonment, aggravated domestic violence (second offense), unlawful driving away of an automobile, felonious assault, and two counts of first-degree criminal sexual assault.

Additional charges will potentially be added pending Wynter's autopsy results. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Please keep this young child's family in your thoughts and prayers.
