A 19-year-old mother is dead after being gunned down by her ex-boyfriend over the weekend.

Police in Gastonia, North Carolina were called to a home after reports of gunshots that had wounded two people. A woman at the residence says that her daughter's ex-boyfriend came to the house and demanded to see her daughter's phone. When she refused, he shot her.

“He killed my baby, just ’cause she wouldn’t give him her cellphone,” the victim's mother told the Gaston Gazette.

According to the victim's mother, the ex-boyfriend, identified as David V. McDowell, had been threatening her daughter, Zanayah White. White had tried to get a restraining order placed on McDowell prior to Saturday's shooting but she was unsuccessful because he didn't have a permanent address. McDowell, said to be upset that White had moved on with someone else after their breakup, posted a song on Facebook that referenced "painting the sky red with her blood".

After entering White's home and shooting her, McDowell exited the residence and shot a man who was outside in the face. That victim has not been identified by name but is reported to be the fiance' of White's mother.

White was the mother of a two-year-old little boy.

McDowell, 24, is charged with first-degree murder. Authorities have not disclosed the other shooting victim’s condition.
