Oklahoma Woman Arrested and Charged After Allegedly Trying to Drown Two Children in a Public Pool.
An Oklahoma woman has been arrested and charged with child abuse after witnesses at a public pool say that she tried to drown two young children in her care. The incident happened back in June but, with recent developments to the case, police have decided to upgrade charges.
Court documents say that a lifeguard found the children unresponsive at Will Rogers Aquatic Center. They were revived and taken to a local hospital, but police noted that 34-year-old Flor Ontiveros appeared unconcerned with officers arrived on the scene, KOKH reported.
Witnesses to the ordeal say that Ontiveros was smiling when she held the children's bodies under the water.
The children, only identified as Ontiveros' 6-year-old nephew and her own 4-year-old daughter, received care at the nearby hospital where the little girl gave greater details to authorities. The child said that her mother “pushed her face underwater” and “that her eyes were open and she was breathing water.”
Ontiveros was also interviewed a few months after the incident, police noted she was adamant this was something she did not do, however confessed that this was something she could have done.
Ontiveros is currently behind bars at the Oklahoma County Detention Center with a $250,000 bond.
