Straight Outta the Movies! Baby Abandoned on New York Doorstep Taken in by Kind-Hearted Stranger!

A tiny newborn baby was found in the cold this past Sunday and taken in by a complete stranger!

The baby was found around 6:05 a.m. Sunday wrapped in blankets in a tote bag outside a residence on Rev. James A Polite Avenue, police said. 

Mamadou Hafiz Jallow, who lives near where the baby was found, brought the baby inside for safety, he said. 

He admits that he was apprehensive about the situation but felt compelled to help. “I didn’t want to mess up any evidence but it was too cold,” Hafiz Jallow. “I had to take the baby from outside, put it [inside].” 

The baby, who is said to be just a few days old, was transported to an area hospital and has been listed in stable condition.

Detectives working the case have been scouring surveillance footage from nearby residences and stores trying to find the person responsible for leaving the baby. After hours of searching they did find an image of a person carrying the tote bag that the baby was found inside of. At this time, no one knows the identity of the person or their relationship to the baby.

Under New York’s Abandoned Infant Protection Act, people can anonymously abandon a newborn baby up to 30 days old – but there are some stipulations. The baby must be left at a safe place, like a hospital or firehouse, and the parent has to notify someone of the baby’s location.
