Texas Man Has $2 Million Bond After Leading Police on a Wild Chase and Killing His 2-Year-Old Child!
A Harris County, Texas man is behind bars today and charged with a heinous crime.
Police say that Deontray Flanagan got into an argument with his girlfriend on Monday and completely became unhinged. Reports say that in a fit of anger Flanagan went to his 2-year-old daughter, Zevaya's, daycare facility and signed her out. Court records said Flanagan was upset with his girlfriend because she was reportedly talking to another man.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said after picking up his daughter from daycare, Flanagan drove to his girlfriend's job, a Walmart on FM 1960, to get her phone. He hit his girlfriend a couple of times before he took off with her cell phone and Zevaya.
Flanagan reportedly Facetimed Zevaya's mother, demanding her passcode to her phone and showing himself assaulting their daughter. Family members of Flanagan were able to track his location and report it to the police. Deputies were able to finally track him down near Greens Road and the North Freeway and led law enforcement on a chase, investigators said. Family members told deputies that during the police chase, Flanagan was physically abusing Zevaya.
The chase eventually ended near a church on Stuebner Airline Road near FM 1960. Flanagan refused to get out of the car so law enforcement had to use a distraction device to get him out and remove his unconscious daughter. Zevaya was also injured from being thrown around in the car during the chase, court records read.
Life Flight was called to the scene and took Zevaya to a hospital where she died.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office said it had contact with Zevaya's mother nearly a week ago to investigate Deontray for an alleged terroristic threat. An investigation took place and the Harris County District Attorney's Office determined there was insufficient evidence and no charges were filed.
Deputies attempted to find Deontray by conducting a welfare check, but they couldn't locate him.
HCSO is continuing to investigate this ordeal to make sure that all of their policies and procedures were followed.
Records show that Flanagan's bond was originally set at $1 million but was upgraded yesterday afternoon. He could be charged with capital murder depending on the findings of Zevaya's autopsy.
Our prayers go out to little Zevaya's mother and her family. This baby did not deserve any of this.
