Tiger Woods "Awake and Responsive" After Horrific Crash that Severely Injured His Legs.
Just one day after a horrific auto accident golfer Tiger Woods is said to be "awake and responsive". Woods was driving a "loaner" vehicle while doing tournament promo in Los Angeles yesterday morning when the SUV rolled over. Woods was pinned inside and emergency medical crews had to use "the jaws of life" to remove him from the vehicle.
After being transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Woods underwent emergency surgery to repair some serious damage to his legs.
A statement issued to Woods' official Twitter account says that Woods "suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center," according to Anish Mahajan, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
The doctor went on to explain in the statement that Woods suffered from "fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibular bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into" the athlete's leg."
Woods also suffered injuries to his foot and ankle which required several pins and screws to be placed. Woods, who is still said to be recovering from a previous, unrelated, back surgery is now said to be "awake, responsive and recovering in his hospital room" while thanking all of the doctors and hospital staff for their support.
Continued prayers up for Tiger!
