#WhatHappenedToJelaniDay? Social Media Calls for Answers in the Horrific Death of Would-Be Doctor.
25-year-old Jelani Day was an Illinois State University graduate student. Day, who was extremely close to his mother and loved by his family disappeared on August 24 without a trace. Day's mother, Carmen Bolden Day, said it was not like him to disappear without telling someone about his whereabouts. "He wasn’t depressed. He didn’t have any kind of pressures that would make him want to escape from life," she said. "So I do feel as if there was someone involved."
His car was found two days later in a wooded area miles away from where he was last seen, His loved ones never gave up hope that he would be found alive until a body was found Sept. 4, floating in the Illinois River in Peru. That body went unidentified for 24 days because of its condition. The coroner on the case described the body as "opaque, near faceless and scalp-less body that not even a mother might recognize." There were obvious signs of trauma with multiple organs missing.
Now that Day has been laid to rest, the internet community, along with his family, are demanding answers. According to the Chicago Sun Times, the corpse had no eyeballs, only sockets. The river’s water had run her course, soaking the body through and through. For the length of time his body had been in the water, we do expect to see significant water damage but, an additional autopsy done proved even more gruesome findings.
The body was missing its front top and bottom teeth. His jawbone had been “sawed out.” The family’s private forensic pathologist could find "no brain, no organs. neither liver. nor spleen."
Hallie M. Bezner, the attorney for Day's mother Carmen Bolden Day, said Jelani's body "had suffered innumerable fish and turtle bites and was maggot-infested". "The genitalia were unidentifiable, according to the private forensic pathologist’s report, but determined to be “flayed,” according to the county coroner’s forensic pathologist." Bezner said citing the report she received from the LaSalle County Coroner’s Office, which has not yet released its autopsy report to the family.
This all reeks of traces of Kendrick Johnson's murder. How is it that young black men are killed and have their organs removed without anyone ever bringing the culprits to justice? How are their mothers supposed to sleep at night knowing that someone murdered their child and is still allowed to walk the streets at night? How is the rest of the Black population supposed to feel safe? Why did Jelani Day receive considerably less media coverage than Gabby Petito, a white woman, who went missing around the same time?
We'll be keeping everyone posted as more details become available in this investigation. Jelani Day DID NOT kill himself and those who are responsible for his murder need to be brought to justice!
